Short answers to the things people ask most. Still stuck? Write to us — a real person reads it.
+What is Front Yard?
A private marketplace for people who already know each other. Someone invites you to their yard, you see what they're selling, and you deal with them directly. There's no public feed, no fees, and no strangers.
+How do I pay for something?
You pay the seller directly — Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Zelle, or cash in person. When you check out, Front Yard shows you the seller's payment links and an order code. Put that code in the payment note so the seller knows which order it belongs to. Front Yard never touches the money.
+What does the countdown on an item mean?
Adding something to your basket and checking out puts it on hold for you, so nobody else can buy it while you pay. The countdown shows how long the hold lasts. If it runs out, the item goes back up for sale and anyone on the waitlist gets first refusal.
+The thing I want is on hold. What now?
Join the waitlist. If the hold expires or the sale falls through, you'll get an email and a short window where the item is reserved for you before anyone else can take it.
+How do I say what I'm looking for?
Tap 'Looking for something?' on any yard and describe it in a few words. When the seller lists something matching, you get an email that opens straight onto it. You can share the request with the seller so it lands on their Looking-for board, or keep it private.
+How do I start selling?
Open your own yard, add a way to get paid, list one thing, and share your invite link with the people you want in it. It takes about five minutes. Quick add mode is the fastest way to list a lot at once.
+How do I mark something sold?
In Items, tap Sold on the row. The item moves out of the shop and into a Past items shelf at the bottom of your yard — visible as history, but nobody can buy it. Tap Relist to put it back up for sale.
+Can I show a discount?
Yes. Put the normal shop price in the Retail price box on the item form and your own price in Price. Buyers see the retail price crossed out next to yours. It only shows if the retail price is actually higher.
+How do invites work?
Every yard has a private link. Anyone with the link can join that yard — and only that yard. There's no way to browse or search for yards you haven't been invited to. Sellers can remove members at any time.
+Is this safe?
The privacy is enforced by the database, not just the screens: people can only see the yards they belong to. But Front Yard doesn't vet people or items, and it isn't part of your sale — use the same judgement you would at a yard sale. Meet somewhere sensible, look at the thing before you pay, and trust your gut.
+Can I change the language?
Yes — pick English, Spanish, or French at the bottom of any page or in Settings. The app changes language, but what people write — item names, descriptions, messages — always stays exactly as they wrote it. We never translate anyone's words for them.
+I'm not getting emails.
Check your spam folder first, and search for the sender address. Sellers can turn some notifications off in Settings, so if you're expecting a weekly digest and there's none, the yard may have it switched off — or there was simply no news that week.
